Expect the unexpected, because this isn’t your regular love story… Winsome performances, several terrific emotional moments, and soulful music are its strengths… The second half could’ve been sharper.Final word? A romantic entertainer that should connect strongly with its target audience – the youth as well as families. The strategy of affordable ticket pricing on opening day is a smart move to attract its core audience and generate strong word of mouth.

On the whole, Chand Mera Dil lacks in emotions and does not have much to entertain. It seems too stretched, and the heroine appears to be too unreasonable in almost the entire second half of the drama.

Overall, Chand Mera Dil’s central conflict- the man’s moment of violence towards his partner- is bound to spark conversation. Love has no place for violence. But love is also, at times, about second chances. It’s complicated and messy. Just like the flaws which prevent this film from being an easy recommendation. Ughh.

It almost feels like the film is too afraid to delve deeper into the messy aspects of a relationship, so it stays on the surface. As a result, Chand Mera Dil very much feels like a laboured take on romance that is confused about where it is going and what it wants to say.

Romance, they say, dies in the first chapter of marriage. In what passes for an “adult romance” in Chand Mera Dil, marriage dies in the first chapter of marriage. Or, does it? You can’t be sure. Never mind their previous productions, director/co-writer Vivek Soni (Meenakshi Sundareshwar) and writers Tushar Paranjape (Killa), Akshat Ghildial (Badhaai Do) don’t seem to know where or whether they are coming or going in this one.

Much like marriages and relationships themselves, the film thrives on chaos and contradiction. Watch out for the final stretch between the protagonists. The lighting feels turbulent, the backdrop restless and several shots intentionally drift out of focus, creating a visual texture that mirrors the emotional instability of the characters.

Chand Mera Dil often feels less like a theatrical romance and more like an Ekta Kapoor television serial with a better costume budget. Actually, scratch that – it genuinely plays like a modern-day Kasautii Zindagii Kay (this is the right spelling, btw). All that’s missing is dramatic thunder sounds and someone re-entering after plastic surgery. Because at some point, you will spot an Anurag, a Prerna, a Sneha and a Mr Bajaj lurking inside this film.

As one character remarks, “Engineer banane bheja tha, baap banke aa gaya,” Chand Mera Dil possesses a straightforward yet emotional essence. It’s neither Saiyaara nor Kabir Singh; this film offers a refreshing perspective.
