Maharana Pratap, the ruler of Mewar, is considered to be the bravest Hindu king during the Mughal rule. Maharana Pratap was a skilled administrator. He gave a tough fight to Mughal emperor Akbar on the battlefield many times. Maharana Pratap belonged to the Sisodia clan of Rajputs. Maharana Pratap Jayanti is celebrated every year to commemorate the birthday of Maharana Pratap. Maharana Pratap, the ruler of Mewar, is considered to be the bravest Hindu king during the Mughal rule. This year in 2025 Maharana Pratap Jayanti will be celebrated on 9 May 2025.
It is believed that Maharana Pratap was more than seven feet tall. He used to wear armor weighing more than 70 kg and a spear weighing 80 kg! Maharana Pratap was born on 9 May 1540 according to the Julian calendar. However, his Jayanti is also celebrated on the Tritiya Tithi of Jyeshtha Shukla according to the Hindu calendar. He was born to King Maharana Udai Singh II, the ruler of the Mewar Kingdom.
Maharana Pratap was the great king of the Sisodia Rajput dynasty of Mewar, Udaipur in the sixteenth century. He is immortal in history for his valor, courage and bravery. He rejected several peace treaties with Akbar and refused to give up the independence of the Mewar kingdom. Maharana Pratap defeated Akbar several times by guerrilla warfare policy. He fought several important battles against Akbar including the Battle of Haldighati in 1576.
