The festival of Eid ul-Adha holds special significance for the Muslim community. Muslim brothers celebrate Eid twice in an Islamic year. The first comes after the holy month of Ramadan, which is called Eid ul-Fitr, which is called Chhoti Eid or Meethi Eid. The second comes about 70 days after Meethi Eid, which is called Eid ul-Adha, Badi Eid or Bakrid. On this day people wish Bakrid Mubarak to friends and relatives. According to belief, in the Quran, Ibrahim has a dream in which Allah orders him to sacrifice his son Ismail. When it was his turn to sacrifice his son, the temptation of being a father started bothering him. So Prophet Ibrahim blindfolded himself and then sacrificed his son. But the surprising thing was that when he removed the cloth from his eyes, he saw that his son was standing safe and sound and a goat had been sacrificed in place of his son. Actually, Allah was testing Ibrahim’s patience and faith.
On this special day, only those animals can be sacrificed which are physically healthy and are not suffering from any disease. Also, the sacrifice of a very small animal is also not acceptable.
