Tesla and SpaceX Chief Elon Musk is in the news again and this time it is after he changed his X display name to ‘Harry Bōlz’.

The name came just after Elon Musk made the bombshell $97.4 billion offer for OpenAI.

The name change has also triggered an unusual occurrence, the values of an obscure cryptocurrency Harry Bōlz (HarryBōlz) which was unveiled on Solana’s PumpFun shot up by a mind-boggling 17,000% rise in value in less than 30 minutes.

Elon Musk is a name who is not only known for revolutionizing industries but for his maverick and unpredictable acts on social media.

He often posted memes which often ruffled a lot of feathers and stirred controversy. He would often change his profile names on social media platforms and again became a topic of discussion and speculation.

This time he has changed his name to Harry Bōlz (HarryBōlz), and the name change has spawned discussions about what it meant and what are its outcomes.

Who is ‘Harry Bolz’?

The name was changed by Elon Musk to Harry Bōlz (HarryBōlz)  and this is not the first time he did it. He had first changed his X display name to “Harry Bōlz,” a slang term in April 2023. At that time Elon Musk jokingly stated that he hoped some media house would pick it up and create a story. However, soon Musk reverted to his original name.

Musk also shared a follow-up tweet, stating,

“An advantage of having organizational affiliation on this platform is that you can change your name without losing verification. More importantly, it helps greatly with reducing impersonation fraud.”

Many felt that the name was inspired by Hanns Bolz, a German painter, sculptor and illustrator.

The incident is another example of the fondness of Elon Musk’s wordplay and online trolling. Earlier in December he briefly donned the name of “Kekus Maximus”.

The interlude happened after the Musk-led conglomerate offered to acquire the nonprofit overseeing OpenAI for $97.4 billion.

However, the offer was brushed off by Sam Altman who reiterated that OpenAI is not for sale.

Altman wrote on his X account,

“No thank you but we will buy twitter for 9.74 billion dollars if you want.”

Altman was talking to Sky News at the AI Action Summit in Paris.

Elon Musk has a soft corner for the cryptocurrency Dogecoin and often his comments on social media lead to wild swings in its values. This time also Elon Musk’s name change to Harry Bolz saw the values of an obscure cryptocurrency called Harry Bolz jump up hitting a market cap of $3.68 million and many were hoping for a repeat of Dogecoin-style breakout. However, the prices tanked by 85% from its peak but still maintained a 3300% high.
