A new trend is sweeping the TikTok social media platform and users are recreating and critiquing a distinct conservative beauty style christened “Republican makeup”.
The latest trend has spawned an amalgam of lampoon, debate, and viral transformation. A debate about how makeup can reflect political affiliations.
The beauty style is also dubbed as “MAGA makeup” or “conservative girl makeup,” and is being humorously recreated by TikTokers.
Many have also referenced figures like White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene as prime examples of the particular beauty style.
“Republican Makeup”, What Sets It Apart?
The Republican Makeup according to TikTokers is a beauty style characterized by a foundation which is orange-toned and does not match the tone of the skin.
Additionally, the beauty style also includes spray tan contouring, clumpy mascara, and theatrical dark eye makeup. In a nutshell, it is the quite opposite of the demeanour of a normal aesthetic woman. TikTokers have also shared their take on the particular makeup style.
The genesis of the particular trend can be traced to a video in November last year by comedian Suzanne Lambert (@itssuzannelambert) in which she underlined the persistent beauty pattern among conservative women in her comment section.
Suzanne discovered that the Republican women who had posted comments did their make-up in the same and distinct way and the latter also decided to try it on herself.
After trying the “Republican makeup” the comedian stated,
“We really want our makeup to cling to any dry spots and accentuate any texture,”
The video quickly went viral and raked in 6 million views, thousands of comments and over 804,000 likes.

One user commented,
“I’m an MUA in rural Tx … every bride asks for this I’m not joking.”
Another user commented,
“So they are all still just doing early 2000s makeup.”
A third user commented,
“Okay this is supposed to be funny but it’s also alarmingly accurate.”
The Republican Makeup and famous Republican media personalities conforming to a specific “look” spawned discussions earlier also in 2012 when the Atlantic published an article comparing female Fox News anchors who wore more makeup than their counterparts in MSNBC or C-SPAN.
Again in 2017, The Guardian published an article which highlighted the fact that why Fox News anchors were all blonde women with identical features and made to look uniform using similar makeup techniques.
