Eid-ul-Adha means the Eid of sacrifice. After Eid-ul-Fitr, this is the second major festival of Islam. There are different parts while choosing animals for sacrifice. While there are seven parts for a large animal (buffalo), there is only one part for a small animal like goat. The festival of Eid-al-Adha is a symbol of sacrifice, dedication and faith. On this festival, people of the Muslim community sacrifice a goat and distribute its meat among the poor and needy. The history of this day is from an incident related to Hazrat Ibrahim. This day is considered the day of sacrifice. It is said that one day Allah asked Hazrat Ibrahim to sacrifice his most beloved thing in a dream. So he decided to sacrifice his son. Hazrat Ibrahim could not see the condition of his son with his eyes, so he had blindfolded himself. Ibrahim sacrificed his son with his eyes closed, but when he opened his eyes, there was a lamb’s head in place of his son. Since then, the celebration of Bakrid started in Islam.
On the day of Eid-al-Adha, people wake up early in the morning, take a bath, wear new clothes and offer prayers. After this, they sacrifice and cook the meat. In Islam, only the sacrifice of animals that are healthy is considered legitimate. People belonging to Islam celebrate this festival every year about 70 days after the end of Ramadan. The day of forgiveness and reward has been named Eid-ul-Fitr.
