The DOGE, or the Department of Government Efficiency, is not a part of the US government but works more in an advisory capacity and is tasked with cutting down and eliminating wasteful expenditure, fraud, and abuse.
DOGE is led by Tesla Chief Elon Musk and is already in action, cracking down on USAID and freezing all US aid for the next ninety days. A tool that tracks the money saved by DOGE has been incorporated into the well-known US Debt Clock website. The app, named ‘DOGE Clock,’ can be located at the top of the US Debt Clock. The latter provides live data on national debt, trade deficits, and other key economic parameters.
Elon Musk’s DOGE Clock Monitors $64.7 Billion in U.S. Savings
The latest data displayed by DOGE Clock indicates that the entity has been able to save $64.7 billion of US taxpayers’ money.
Elon Musk has also posted on X, stating that just saving 0.1% of federal expenditure is not substantial and that the figures must be one hundred times higher.
The DOGE entity was created by Donald Trump through an executive order, and Elon Musk is leading the agency. The primary task of DOGE is to prevent extravagant and deceptive federal spending and unwarranted regulations.
The US Debt Clock details the present United States national debt, which is at $34.4 trillion. In other words, every American citizen is burdened with a debt of $107,125. The federal tax collection totals $5.016 trillion, which comes to $14,759 per citizen. The federal spending is to the tune of $7.02 trillion, and the rest is taken care of by deficit financing amounting to $2 trillion.
The federal government’s major spending includes $1.6 trillion for Medicare/Medicaid, $1.4 trillion on Social Security projects, and $878 billion on defence.
The DOGE department had Vivek Ramaswamy in a lead role, but he later resigned while expressing support for Musk and the department’s mission.
Vivek Ramaswamy, in a post on X, stated,
“It was my honor to help support the creation of DOGE. I am confident that Elon and the team will succeed in streamlining the government. I’ll have more to say very soon about my future plans in Ohio.
