“Emilia Pérez” star Karla Sofía Gascón is facing a lot of flak for her posts on the social media platform X. Karla Sofía Gascón had posted several controversial Tweets to express her viewpoint on Muslims, George Floyda and the diversity at the Oscars.
Most of the posts which were posted in the intervening periods between 2020 and 2021 were deleted by Thursday. However, they were resurfaced by journalist Sarah Hagi and once again a lot of controversy has erupted.
Karla Sofía Gascón Under Fire for Resurfaced Controversial Tweets
One post by the actor dated Nov. 22, 2020, reads,
“I’m Sorry, Is it just my impression or are there more Muslims in Spain? Every time I go to pick up my daughter from school there are more women with their hair covered and their skirts down to their heels. Next year instead of English we’ll have to teach Arabic.”
In another controversial post, the actor also attached a picture featuring a Muslim family in a restaurant, including a woman in a burka and it read,
“Islam is marvelous, without any machismo. Women are respected, and when they are so respected they are left with a little squared hole on their faces for their eyes to be visible and their mouths, but only if she behave. Although they dress this way for their own enjoyment. How DEEPLY DISGUSTING OF HUMANITY.”
In another post from Jan. 29, 2021, Gascón laments that Islam fails to augur to international rights and it must be banned because it does not comply with human rights in Spanish law.
Karla Sofía Gascón’s diatribe was not limited only against Islam but transcends to other faiths as well. She also derided other religions such as Christianity and Catholicism and equated it with fucking beliefs of morons that violate human rights.
Karla Sofía Gascón also launched a tirade against George Floyd just days after he was killed by a police officer and led to violent protests across the US. She lamented the fact that people sympathized with George Floyd, a drug addict swindler and his death was projected as another example that policemen were assassins and blacks were denied their rights which is completely wrong.
Karla Sofía Gascón followed it up with another post, in which she stated,
“Too many things to reflect on regarding the behavior of our species every time an event occurs. Perhaps it is no longer a question of racism, but of social classes that feel threatened by each other. Maybe that’s the only real difference.”
However Karla Sofía Gascón has issued an apology for her past tweets and this is amidst the historic occasion of her being nominated for an Oscar, the first openly trans actor to be nominated for an Academy Award.
