The fatal collision between an American Airlines jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has ignited a huge debate.

The collisions lead to the death of all 67 persons aboard the two aircraft. Social media users are holding Trump responsible for the fatal collision.

Did Donald Trump Fire FAA Director Mike Whitaker Before the Potomac Plane Crash?

Some netizens have alleged that the FAA director Mike Whitaker was fired by the Trump administration, days before the crash. The Agency has been without a head since the resignation of Mike Whitaker.

In another development, President Donald Trump on Thursday blamed the collision between an American Airlines jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter on the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs of the previous Biden administration.

It is now reported that the Trump Administration has appointed Christopher Rocheleau, a 22-year veteran as the acting administrator of FAA.

Many users have also dragged the name of Tesla Chief Elon Musk into the controversy.

One user tweeted on X,

“No FAA director for 10 days… Musk fired him because he criticized SpaceX. There is blood on their hands and I wish the news would put THAT in the headlines,”

A second user wrote,

“Trump fires the FAA director. Freezes hiring of air traffic controllers despite them being understaffed by 3,000, and these bigots are still looking for a minority to blame…”

However, the fact is that Donald Trump did not fire Whitaker and the latter had announced that he is stepping down days before Donald Trump took office.

However, Whitaker, who had assumed his position as FAA administrator in October 2023 was to serve for a five-year term.

However, the fact cannot be denied that Mike Whitaker had been at loggerheads with Elon Musk and had even suggested fines of more than $600,000 for SpaceX.

This prompted the head of DOGE, Elon Musk to demand the former’s resignation.

The head of SpaceX also accused the FAA chief of harassment. Coming to present times with the resignation of Michael Whitaker there is no Senate-confirmed leader to head the FAA which is facing one of the biggest crises of recent times.
