For over 72 million less privileged Americans like retirees, disabled individuals, and survivors, the Social Security payments heaven sent and help them to weather the vagaries of inflation and rising living costs. The Social Security payments are spread during the month and the good news is that the first round of the February payments was dispatched on February 12th, 2025. Knowing when a person will receive his Social Security payment is important because it will help the person plan his resources accordingly.
February 2025 Payment Schedule
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will send the payouts to different beneficiaries on different dates based on their birthdates.
- Recipients born in between 1st and 10th of any month will receive their payments on February 12.
- Recipients born in between 11th and 20th of any month will receive their payments on February 19.
- Recipients born between the 21st and 31st of any month will receive their payments on February 26.
Social Security Administration (SSA) stretches the payments on different dates based on the birth dates to ensure efficiency and reduce delays.
Exceptions to the Payment Schedule
There could be exceptions in the payment schedules which include
- 3.2 Million Americans who would be receiving bigger Social Security Checks,
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments for February were distributed on January 31st since February 1st was a weekend,
- Citizens who started getting benefits prior to May 1997 were paid on February 3 irrespective of their birthdate
Payment Modes
Social Security payments are sent either electronically into the recipient’s account, or sent onto a government-issued debit card or a paper check is sent to the recipient’s address. However, the SSA encourages the recipients to opt for direct deposit to avoid delays.
2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)
In 2025, Social Security beneficiaries will receive $49 per month more since the cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) which is designed to offset inflation was augmented to 2.5%. Earlier the beneficiaries received $1,927 which is now $1,976.
For the unversed, the COLA or the cost-of-living adjustment is based upon the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) and is designed to cushion the impact of inflation on the vulnerable sections of society.
